Do you need insulation?

Proper insulation in your house from the roof to its foundation is an effective way to make your home more comfortable year-around and helps with energy efficiency. And of course it has to fit your budget.

For unfinished attics the best insulation type is loose-fill or batt (batt is little bit more expensive but gives the better coverage). Start with a roof and fix any damages. Then check your attic for any potential air leaks that must be seal properly. Another important moment especially with summer like we have right now: don't forget to install a radiant barrier to reduce summer heat gain.

When you insulated your attic properly check your exterior walls. Poor insulation could be a reason for unpleasant atmosphere in your house. With new homes it's much easier to add proper type of insulation during construction. For existing houses your contractor could add extra insulation when changing exterior siding or during remodeling interior layout. Wet spray cellulose or two-part spray foam? The right choice could be recommended by your contractor who works with your budget, building codes and plan.

Proper isolation in your basement and foundation helps to reduce heating costs but also helps with moisture exposure. Or could add some living space for your house such a nice and comfy playroom or men's cave in your basement.

Also some extra insulation could be added to the floors above a garage or crawlspace. That helps you save on heating bills, improves comfort in your house or even add value to your property.
